In January 2025, devastating wildfires swept through the city of Los Angeles, forcing families to flee and leaving entire communities reeling in their aftermath. Homes were destroyed, schools were disrupted, and people were suddenly faced with the challenge of rebuilding.

It was clear from the start that recovery would take more than donations—it would take coordination, fast action, and people willing to show up.

At Lugg, we knew we had a role to play. We had trucks, crews, and a platform built for on-demand moves, we were ready to get relief where it was needed most.

So we did what we do best: we moved.

Saying yes, one move at a time

One Instagram post ignited the movement, as hundreds of people reshared and spread the message, connecting us with individuals, nonprofits, and businesses ready to offer support or receive it.

In a matter of days, DMs and emails came rushing in—not just from Los Angeles, but from cities across the country, all hoping to find ways to support Californians in need. Luggers were out every day completing free Luggs, delivering essentials, and helping families begin again.

The people behind the moves

We helped families move their belongings to safety. Picked up donations from neighbors and businesses to get them into the hands of those who needed them. Delivered baby gear, groceries, bedding, furniture, and more—sometimes to homes, sometimes to shelters, and sometimes to areas where volunteers were coordinating next steps.

“Lugg helped us get into our temporary housing after the California wildfires. We’re now loyal customers for life.” — LA wildfire survivor

One family of six worked with designer Bre Hance to replace their furniture after losing everything, and we ensured each piece was delivered. While @moms4relief became a key community connector, organizing pickups across LA.

“I’m crying. Seriously, thank you. Every Lugg crew member was incredible." — @moms4relief

We teamed up with Palisades Charter Elementary and Speak.Live.Play to move hundreds of toys and school supplies for students impacted by the wildfires. Movers William and Sebastian were just two of many who stepped in with compassion and speed.

“Movers William and Sebastian did a great job. Efficient but not rushed. Thank you guys so much.” — Kyle Todd

Alongside so many others who stepped in to help:

Each move was different—some big, some small—but every single one mattered. Together, they formed a larger story of relief, recovery, and resilience.

Partners who made it possible

These efforts also wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible community of partners who stepped in, each playing a role in rebuilding, restoring, and relieving.

We joined forces with A Sense of Home and Home Bank LA to furnish safe housing for families displaced by the wildfires and young adults transitioning out of foster care.

Through a warehouse donation from Olive Ateliers, we delivered essentials to the YMCA in partnership with the Red Cross, helping families begin again.

Drink Ghia and Montes Fine Foods cooked nourishing meals for first responders, and Lugg helped make it happen by delivering bulk ingredients to their kitchens.

Hotel Surplus Outlet offered discounted furniture for fire victims, and we ensured it reached those who needed it quickly and safely.

We worked with Blank Space OC to coordinate large-scale donation drops to shelters like the Dream Center, transporting everything from bedding to bulk supplies.

We also partnered with USC, delivering donation boxes to the Eaton Fire distribution center in Lincoln Heights.

Meanwhile, Phenomenal MediaMeena Harris, and Babylist teamed up to provide baby gear and family essentials, which we delivered across the city through a series of Lugg trips.

And when the Eaton Fire Station needed backup power, a generator donated by Brittany Stewart of Burst Oral Care was delivered by our Luggers to help restore critical infrastructure.

Every move mattered—and every partner played a part in lifting Los Angeles back up.

The impact we made, together

By the time our wildfire response came to a close, we were deeply grateful to have achieved the following:

  • Over 245 free moves for those in need
  • 80 relocations for families affected by the wildfires
  • 111 pickups of generous donations
  • 37 furniture deliveries from our compassionate retail and nonprofit partners
  • 15 setups for donation events to support the community

In total, we provided more than $75,000 worth of free Luggs across Los Angeles. But the true measure of this impact is more than just numbers; it’s in the heartfelt stories, the faces of those we helped, and the collective compassion that fueled our response.

“My mother is a wildfire survivor and their helpfulness and your company’s compassion, prompt communication is something of a miracle.” - Family member of an LA wildfire survivor

Together, we made a difference in the lives of many, and the bonds we formed during this time are what truly matter.

A collective thank you

To everyone who moved, donated, organized, cooked, built, and delivered, thank you. You helped us turn trucks and boxes into something so much bigger: relief, comfort, and care when it mattered most.

While we’ve reached our capacity for offering free Luggs at this time, we know recovery doesn’t happen overnight, and many are still in the process of rebuilding. If you or someone you know needs support, we’re happy to explore options or connect you with local resources where we can.
